Beekeeper gifts
The ultimate gift guide for beekeepers and their loved ones

This holiday season is a little different. With covid-19 still affecting much of our lives, the quest for the perfect gift is not so easy. The stores have limited opening times and capacities, and for many, holiday spending is going to be tighter than usual. But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the spirit of giving with something sincere and thoughtful. Below we share some creative gift ideas from beekeepers, and also a few for the beekeepers.

1. Something sweet from the beekeeper

It may sound like a no brainer, and it is. But that doesn’t make it any less of a good idea. Who doesn’t love honey? And we appreciate it all the more when we know where it came from and the TLC that went into harvesting it. It keeps well and has a bunch of health benefits like strengthening the immune system, better memory retention and concentration.

If you want to push it a step further, then why not make your own honey-based sweets, like whiskey and honey marmalade, homemade honey butter, honey roasted nuts or honey fudge?

Combine the pleasure of gift giving with the satisfaction that you made it yourself. Add your homemade sweets to a basket together with a special type of honey, wrap I in a big bow, and there you have it. A simple gift made with love.

2. From the industrious beekeeper

This one sounds like it could be complicated but have no fear. It is much easier than you would expect. There are so many products that can be made from beeswax and none of them require exceptional knowledge or skills. So, if you’re brave enough, get your hand dirty and start creating your own beeswax products! Give your loved ones a little light this Christmas with some homemade candles. Only the satisfaction that you made it yourself will make it a unique gift that will warm up anyone’s heart in the cold winter days.

Bee products such as honey, propolis, bees wax and Royal gelee are used is many premium self care products. The reality is though, these are often not so difficult to make and really useful, such as lip balm, soap and lotion, or a body scrub. In the stores, these natural products are often luxury items, so go on and make your own gift set with homemade bee products.

How about something for the kids? Beeswax crayons are lots of fun to play with and sustainable. Win-win…unless they decide to ‘Picasso’ the walls with them.

3. Head buzzing gifts

For friends and family that like to celebrate the holiday season with a drink, why not try a tipple that is rumored to make you strong as a Viking (which may or may not also deliver a Viking sized hangover. In our previous blog post we gave you a great mead recipe (sampled by our team), that’s guaranteed to be a hit with anyone who enjoys a drink. Follow our recipe to make your own mead and pour it into a special looking bottle to complete the look with the taste. Buy an ox horn, add your mead  and voila- another special gift for this Christmas. Just to note, it may be a little late to brew mead for this Christmas season, but this is still a great way to add a little punch to your presenting for next year.

If you are buying for the beekeeper, you can always create a mead brewing-kit as a gift. And who knows, perhaps they will share the fruits of there labour with you as a way to say thank you. You can find everything you need here, as well as the instructions on how to make it.

4. A treat for the ‘techy’ beekeeper

If you’re buying for a beekeeper who likes to get digital, then you might want to have a look at beekeeping technology that will improve every beekeeper's life. We recommend a try-out kit for 1-3 colonies for a beekeeper, so that your friend can adopt well to the technology and will find out how it fits the running operations. Have a look, what Vatorex can offer as beekeeping technology gifts.

5. Something for the environment

You can be sure that the beekeeper in your life cares about the environment. The nurturing spirit is part of the attraction to beekeeping. A great way to show them how much you care for them, is to make a donation in their name towards a project that supports pollination, biodiversity and also bee research. Many communities have specific local programs that would be happy to receive your donation, or, if you would like to contribute towards a global program, check out the Pollinator Partnership.

Just because your Christmas lunch maybe enjoyed over zoom this season, it doesn’t mean Christmas is ruined. All you need is a little creativity, and a little help from the bees.
